Behind-the-scenes Look at the Work Life of Members of Congress

 to be Released by SHRM and CMF on March 12

 

WASHINGTON, D.C., Feb. 25, 2013 — The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) and the Congressional Management Foundation (CMF) will release the findings of the first research to examine what members of Congress think about their jobs.

WHAT: Release of “Life in Congress: The Member Perspective,” a unique look into how members of the U.S. House of Representatives view the daily activities, challenges and motivations of their jobs.

WHEN: 10 a.m. Eastern Time, Tuesday, March 12, 2013

DETAILS: Based on the responses of 25 members of the House of Representatives and supplemented by CMF’s work with Congress, the research shows how much time members spend on legislative work and constituent services compared to political activities; the number of hours in a typical workweek; and how satisfied lawmakers are with their jobs.

The research is being released at SHRM’s Employment Law & Legislative Conference, March 10-13 in Washington.

This is the second in a series of three SHRM-CMF research reports about Life in Congress. The first report, released in October 2012, showed that U.S. House and Senate staff members value flexibility to balance life and work issues, but most were not satisfied with the flexibility afforded them. A third report to be released in April will examine the job satisfaction of staff members.
