Event Details

This webinar is designed for all those associated with setting up and running a freshman office in the House or Senate: Member, Senator, staffer, spouse, partner – even kids. It is based on CMF research including the CMF-SHRM report, Life in Congress: The Member Perspective, as well as CMF's signature publication, Setting Course. Joining us for this special evening event will be a Member of Congress to help prepare you for the best rollercoaster of your life!

Welcome to Congress! You’ve started an exciting adventure as a staffer or a Member of the freshman class of the 118th Congress. But what is really in store for you, your staff, and your families?

CMF has created this unique program, taking the holistic approach of involving not only the Member and key staff, but also family members. To reach as many people as possible, we have scheduled this as an evening webinar as an informal discussion with a current Member and senior staffer who will provide their insight into how Members spend their time, how to set up communication channels with the Member’s family, job satisfaction and more.

Our guest presenters for this webinar are Rep. Sharice Davids (KS-03 D) and Shana Teehan, Chief of Staff for Rep. Barry Moore (AL-02 R).

Rep. Davids was first elected to the 116th Congress and became one of the first two Native American women to serve in Congress. After high school she worked her way through Johnson County Community College and the University of Missouri-Kansas City before earning a law degree from Cornell Law School. She was also a White House Fellow under President Barack Obama. She was the winner of CMF’s 2022 Democracy Award in the category ‘Transparency & Accountability’.

Shana Teehan has experience in both the House and Senate. She previously served as the state director for Ron Paul’s presidential campaign and was the Communications Director for the Alabama Republican Party during the 2012 election cycle. She then became Press Secretary to Rep. Kevin Brady (TX- 8 R) and Communications Director for Rep. Will Hurd (TX-23 R). Additionally, Shana has worked as Communications Director for Sen. Luther Strange (AL – R), Senior Advisor to the Ways & Means Committee Chairman Brady and is currently the Chief of Staff to Rep. Barry Moore – whose office she helped set up after he won election in 2020.
